Telecom firms told to fix connectivity in Long Segdi, Kunigad, Irani and Birahi; schools and health centres to be listed for Bharat Net broadband
Chamoli: The district administration has ordered a survey to identify locations needing additional mobile towers and directed telecom operators to complete construction of pending and proposed towers on priority, in a push to close network gaps across the district’s remote and difficult terrain.

The directions came at a District Telecom Committee meeting chaired by District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar at the district office auditorium on Friday, which reviewed the current status of telecom services, mobile network expansion, digital connectivity, 4G saturation and the progress of the Bharat Net project.
The DM directed representatives of BSNL and all other telecom companies to ensure time-bound resolution of technical problems relating to tower performance, internet speed, network range, call quality and coverage. Alongside a review of functioning towers, officials were asked to conduct a survey and prepare a detailed list of locations where additional towers are required.
Taking note of network complaints received through various channels, the DM directed all telecom companies to resolve them on priority. He specifically called for early resolution of connectivity problems in Long Segdi, Kunigad, Irani and Birahi, among other villages and areas.
Reviewing the Bharat Net project, the DM directed that 4G saturation work in the district be accelerated. He also ordered the preparation of a list of schools, anganwadi centres, primary health centres, community health centres and panchayat buildings to be sent to ITDA for the provision of high-speed broadband connectivity under the scheme.
Strong network connectivity is essential in the digital age, the DM said. The absence of a network creates obstacles in education, health services, administrative work, online services and the implementation of various public welfare schemes, causing particular difficulty for citizens in remote areas. He directed all telecom companies to coordinate with one another to ensure improvement in network services.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Magistrate Vivek Prakash, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Abhishek Gupta, e-District Manager Jaiveer Negi, Executive Officer Anil Kumar, and officials and representatives of BSNL, Airtel, Jio, VI and other departments concerned.
